Commercial Banking Executive


As a commercial banking executive, Kelly Elkin partners with nonprofit and government entities to provide financial support as their organizations grow and evolve. She also serves as a liaison to seamlessly connect them with Alerus specialists to provide efficient, complete financial services that help them meet their financial objectives.

Kelly has more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, with extensive expertise in government and nonprofit lending, capital markets, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), and grant-making. She is a decades-long advocate for community and economic development and is skilled in collaborating with nonprofits, government agencies, community development financial institutions, and the private sector to finance projects and programs that equitably support the needs of diverse communities.

Before joining Alerus in July 2023, Kelly spent seven years as manager of government and nonprofit banking at Old National Bank and has held a variety of leadership roles in government and nonprofit banking, community relations, and capital markets at financial institutions throughout the Twin Cities.

An active member of her community, Kelly currently serves First Children’s Finance as a board member, and as a member of the credit and finance committees and facility revitalization grants advisory group. She is a past board member for the Old National Bank Foundation, Youthprise, and Alliance Housing, among other board and community volunteer positions. Kelly is a multi-year recipient of Finance & Commerce’s Top Women in Finance award and was inducted into the Top Women in Finance Hall of Fame in 2022. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and French from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis.
