Alerus Promotes Becky Walen to SVP, Head of Wealth Management

Alerus is pleased to announce Becky Walen has been named senior vice president and head of wealth management. Becky joined Alerus in April 2025 to lead North Dakota’s wealth advisory team. In her new role, she will oversee wealth operations throughout the company, including financial and wealth advisory services, trust services, and private banking.

Becky has more than 20 years of wealth management experience, with deep expertise in North Dakota and Minnesota. She previously served as senior vice president and market development director for Bell Bank Wealth Management from 2013 to 2023 and as senior vice president and director of wealth planning at Bremer Bank from 2023 to 2024. Before joining Alerus, she served as vice president and financial planner for Thoreson Steffes Trust Company.
An active member of the community, Becky has served as a board member for numerous organizations. She currently serves as a mentor in the College of Business at North Dakota State University, is an advisory board member for the NDSU Department of Transportation, Logistics and Finance and the College of Human Services board of visitors. She also sits on the United Way of Cass-Clay’s development committee, YWCA of Cass Clay’s Women of the Year committee, and is a board member for the Red River Valley Estate Planning Council, Junior Achievement North, and The Arts Partnership.
Becky holds a master’s degree in family financial planning from NDSU and a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Mary. She is an Accredited Financial Counselor, a Certified Financial Planner, and holds a certification in philanthropic solutions in financial planning from the Financial Planning Association.
